The Camargue & the surroundings

Welcome to the Camargue, an authentic and preserved territory, proud of its traditions.

Formed since the Quaternary era, the Rhone delta has constantly changed over the centuries to become today the largest wetland in France. It is one of the four largest deltas in Europe. With an area of 85 000 ha, the island of Camargue offers only 25 000 ha of cultivated land (mainly paddy fields).

The Camargue is one of the most biologically rich regions in Western Europe. Located in the migration route of birds from Northern Europe to Africa, it forms a vital relay for birdlife.

Our rooms have a terrace and offer direct access to the garden,
a small piece of Camargue at your door.

The sea and the beaches

Know the freedom of a wild beach or the safety of a supervised bathing area. The village offers more than 30 km of beaches, the closest 5 min from Mas de la Grenouillère.
You can enjoy the beaches near the city center or the mostislated which are totally wild. This diversity enables everyone to enjoy the sea according to their tastes: sunbathing, family bathing, comfort of private beaches or water sports for the more athleticones.

The dunes, the ponds, the swamps...

The sea dunes, despite their very arid appearance, retain a reserve of fresh water that enables a rich and colorful flora to grow.
The lagoons, shallow brackish ponds have many communications between them and formerly with the sea by the "graus".
The lawns, sought by the breeders, contribute to the quality of the Camargue landscapes: daffodils in winter, daisies in spring, saladelles in summer...
Marshes fed with fresh or salt water by a network of "roubines" are often of major ornithological interest (ducks and waders in winter, herons and sparrows in spring.

Art of living & gastronomy

Admire the light of the little white houses from the seaside promenade. Take a seat on the terrace of a good restaurant to enjoy the local flavors. Discover the capital of the Camargue, just there, out of time, between sky, sea and swamps.
Thanks to the products of the sea (tellines, fish, eels, crabs, ...) and those of the soil (Camargue rice, fleur de sel, Camargue bulls, ...) the Saintois chefs have been able to develop a high local gastronomy, colorful and tasteful.

Culture & Traditions

Share the passion of Provencal culture. The Camargue has given Provence its most beautiful traditions. It is not surprising that Mireille's initiatory journey, imagined by Fréderic Mistral, ends up in the Saintes Maries de la Mer. The costume, the gardians, the Camarguaises races, the abrivados... punctuate the Saintoise year. This amazing vitality reflects a great desire to make them discover and share with everyone who comes here.
